Three people were reportedly injured when a trailer rammed into a mini truck carrying sachet water on the outskirts of Abuja.
Witnesses said the accident happened near the popular Karu bridge on the expressway that links Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
One of the witnesses, Isiah James, said the crash involved a trailer and a vehicle conveying sachet water, which, according to him, was badly damaged.
The witness said he saw two people being rushed to hospital shortly after the accident.
“I arrived at that place about five minutes after the accident. I saw two people being rushed to the hospital. I did not see any dead body, but the accident caused serious traffic gridlock on the road,’’ he said.
It could be recalled that the road linking the FCT to other states like Benue and Plateau had recorded not less than four major accidents this year alone.
Confirming yesterday’s accident, the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Unit Commander in charge of Karu, Ofor Audu, said three people were injured in the accident and that they were taken to Nyanya hospital.
The unit commander said no one died in the accident.
He said an articulated truck hit the mini truck loaded with sachet water from the back and severely damaged the vehicle.
He said the driver of the articulated trailer attempted to run but was chased by policemen and arrested.
He said his men moved to the scene immediately and cleared the obstruction.
Also confirming the incident, the FCT Sector Commander of FRSC, however, said the accident involved six vehicles and 35 persons.
He said the three people who were injured were rushed to hospitals in Asokoro and Nyanya.
