The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has adopted indirect primaries for the 2019 elections.
A member of the state’s board of trustees, Senator Sidi Ali, read the communique after a consultative meeting with the party executives and the aspirants in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said all stakeholders had thoroughly deliberated on the position of the party as directed by the National Working Committee concerning the mode of primaries that would produce APC candidates for the 2019 general elections.
“After due deliberations, the stakeholders unanimously approved the position of the state executive committee which opted for the indirect primaries. This was done by a total yes votes.
“The APC FCT has decided to adopt the indirect mode for the primaries that will produce our candidates for the 2019 general elections,” he said.
The Coordinator of Satellite Towns Development Department, Ishaku Yamau Tanko, commended the party executives for their position, adding that it would strengthen democratic tenets in the party.
He said the unity and acceptance of the position of the state executives by all party members demonstrated the unity and harmony existing in the party.
“We are not scared of anything that will happen in 2019 and today’s event is a testimony that we are one family,” he said.
While explaining the process of the indirect primaries, he said delegates would be elected from wards, area council and state levels including political office holders to vote for candidates and not the direct primaries whereby all card carrying members would have to vote.
The meeting was attended by area council chairmen, House of Representatives members, mandate secretaries in the FCT Administration, party executives and the aspirants.
