FCT APC councillorship candidate dies in auto crash

A candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Igu Ward under the Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), James Danbaki Zakaria, has lost his life in an auto crash at Dutsen- Tipper Garage junction along the Bwari-Dutse highway.

Abuja Metro learnt that the incident, which involved a trailer truck, took place around 7am Wednesday.

The FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Felix Theman, confirmed the incident through telephone with our reporter.

He said the trailer truck was descending from the Usuma Dam hill and ran over three vehicles by the junction, which also links to Bmuko community.

“We met five injured persons on the ground and moved them to the Kubwa General Hospital for medical attention,” he added.

The FRSC commander attributed the accident to brake failure on the truck, whose driver later managed to stop near a nearby Shafa filling station close to the junction.

Bulus Simon, Secretary to the Chief of Baupma—a community just opposite the junction—said the deceased was riding his motorcycle (a rubber motorcycle) and is suspected to have been heading to the Dutsen-Alhaji community, where he works, when he was suddenly hit by the truck.

A witness, Ose Idasho, said the victim’s clothing was caught by the vehicle, which dragged him to the location where the driver finally parked.

Idasho added that the victim’s body was severely mutilated and had to be assembled after the accident.

Idasho lamented that most road users—mostly comprising tipper trucks, commercial tricycles, and motorcycles—hardly obey the traffic light at the junction, which has led to numerous accidents in the past.
