Secretary in charge of Social Development Secretariat, Mrs. Blessing Onuh, who stated this last week at a media forum in Abuja, said renovation work on the edifice include replacement of dilapidated doors and windows.
Other renovation work, according to her, include repair of electrical fittings, plumbing and roofing materials which is expected to be completed before the furnishing of all the offices of the complex.
On the battle against insecurity in the Territory, Onuh a total of 2000 illegal immigrants have been arrested in Abuja and repatriated to their various countries.
The feat, she said, was achieved through the inter-agency committee comprising Military, Civil Defence Corps, Police, Nigerian Immigration Services and the State Security Services constituted by the FCT Administration with the help of social workers in the secretariat.
She therefore warned miscreants bent on constituting nuisance in Abuja to steer clear of the territory.
The secretary noted that the secretariat within the past year organized various skills acquisition training programmes in which about 5000 women received support.
According to her, the secretariat initiated a poverty alleviation and job creation tricycle scheme and distributed a total of 100 customized tricycles to youths from the six area councils of the territory

She further disclosed that the abandoned Bwari vocational centre for physically-challenged persons has now been renovated and re-opened for public use.
“Despite all these achievements, we are also facing challenges in the areas of inadequate infrastructure and facilities requiring urgent intervention to enable us carry out our social responsibilities in the FCT,” she said.
