The FCT Badminton Association Board, led by its Chairman, Comptroller Mohammed Usman Bappa (rtd), has unveiled an ambitious agenda focused on grassroots development, talent scouting, and structured tournaments to discover and nurture young athletes.

Comptroller Bappa outlined these plans during a courtesy visit to the FCT Director of Sports, Mr. Luka Istifanus, at his office in Abuja. He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to sustaining and expanding the legacy of the late Mr. Gabriel Gbayan, the former chairman, who was a passionate advocate for badminton in the FCT.

“We have been working tirelessly to ensure that badminton in the FCT remains vibrant, just as it was under our late Chairman,” Bappa stated. “Our goal is to organize tournaments across all FCT Area Councils, serving as scouting platforms for emerging talents ahead of the 2025 National Sports Festival and Youth Games.”

As part of its broader vision, the Board announced plans to introduce periodic tournaments across different age categories, extending the sport’s reach to primary and secondary schools.

“With over 40 active badminton clubs in the FCT, our mission is to unify them in competitive platforms that harness raw talent and elevate the FCT’s standing in national and international badminton,” Bappa added.

In response, Mr. Istifanus commended the Board for its dedication and reaffirmed his unwavering support for the sport’s growth in the FCT.
