The Ona of Abaji and Chairman of the FCT Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, has called on Egbira natives to prioritize unity and the sustenance of their culture and traditions, wherever they reside.
Alhaji Yunusa, represented by the Agyekpa of Abaji, Alhaji Kamal Adamu Shuaibu (the District Head of Ayaura), made the call at the 2025 annual Irewha Cultural and Hunting Festival in Shafa-Abakpa, Toto LGA of Nasarawa State.
He stated that the Irewha festival has once again signaled the peace, unity, and cultural sustenance for which the Egbira-speaking people—spanning Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, and the FCT—are well known.
The monarch also expressed his delight at the presence of the Aguma of Bassa, HRH David Wodi Tukura, and his kinsmen. He noted that their full participation in this year’s festival serves as a strong signal that peace has been fully restored to all parts of Toto LGA.
He further commended the executives of the Shafa-Abakpa Community Development Association (SACA) for organizing the event and pledged his continuous support for its future success.
Also speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Civil Service Commission, Barrister Tanko Musa Osuku, described the Irewha annual festival as more than just a cultural display, calling it a “catalyst for peace.”
He expressed excitement over the rich hunting traditions on display, noting that the festival serves as a captivating platform to showcase the enduring heritage of the Egbira people across state borders.
