The Village Head of Pandagi-Gbako community in Agyana/Pandagi ward in Abaji Area Council of the FCT, Agaba Gata, has expressed concern over the deplorable condition of the road linking the community to neighbouring Pandagi village.
Gata, who spoke when Abuja Metro visited the community on Sunday, said the dilapidated road had been causing untold hardship to his people over the years without the government coming to their aid.
He said the road became worse during the rainy season, and that the only stream in the community had no bridge, which made residents become stranded whenever it rained heavily.
He said he always mobilised his subjects every dry season to fix some bad portions of the road in order to enable them access neighbouring villages.
The chief also lamented the lack of a junior secondary school in the community, saying children always trekked two kilometres to neighbouring Nanda village to attend school.
He said despite the population of children in the community, access to secondary education had been a serious challenge facing parents.
“You can imagine that our children always trek for almost two kilometres to neighbouring Nanda village to attend school. At least, if the government can assist us by establishing a junior secondary school in this community, it will reduce the burden and stress children face by trekking to neighbouring Nanda village to attend school,” he said.
He also called on the authorities of the area council to liaise with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to set up a polling unit in the community.
“My people always trek for two kilometres to neighbouring Nanda village to cast votes during elections. Hence I want to use this medium to also appeal to the government to liaise with INEC to create a polling unit here in this village in order to reduce the stress people go through every election,” he said.
Reacting, the Chief of Staff to the chairman of the council, Mohammed Kandi, who spoke to our reporter through telephone on Monday, said the council had already captured the grading of Pandagi-Gbako road in next year’s budget, including the construction of culverts across some streams in the community.
He said the council would look into the issue of setting up a polling unit in the community before or after the February 21, 2026, council election.
