The father of the Vice Chairman of Kwali Area Council of the FCT, Alhaji Mohammed Yakubu, a pregnant woman and five others have been abducted by gunmen in Yewuti village in the council.

It was learnt that a villager, Hussaini Kure, was shot dead during the attack.

City & crime recalls that Yewuti, the hometown of a former Vice Chairman of Kwali, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti, came under attack by kidnappers on April 22, 2023, and 29 villagers were abducted.

Confirming the latest incident, a resident, Ibrahim Danjuma, said that around 12am the gunmen in their large numbers wielding AK-47 rifles invaded three houses, including the house of the father of the vice chairman, Suleiman Idris, and whisked him away alongside six other villagers.

He added that, “Unfortunately, one of the villagers, Hussaini Kure, who attempted to escape was shot dead by the gunmen.”

The Etsu Yewuti, Mohammed Isyaku, who confirmed the latest attack, said the community was terrified as a result of the gunshots during the attack.

He appealed to authorities of the council to come to the aid of his subjects through liaising with relevant security agents on how to rescue the abducted victims.

He said, “This is sad and worrisome. This is the third attack we are witnessing this year in our community. I am appealing to relevant security agencies to come to our aid to rescue the abducted victims, including a pregnant woman.”

Meanwhile, the abductors have demanded a N30m ransom, and a family member of one of the victims who preferred anonymity told our reporter that negotiation was ongoing.”

When contacted, the spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, said she was in church but would find out and get back to our reporter.
