In his scorecard made available to Trustsports, the chairman who came to office in May 2005 said his tenure has witnessed significant transformation of the game of football in the Federal Capital Territory.

Attah said as he did promise during his campaign, an enabling environment was created during his tenure for the youth of FCT to actively participate in football activities just as he said his administration used the power of football to unite and build for the youth a sustainable future.

The out-going chairman said despite financial constraints, his administration was able to among other things initiate grassroot football development programme which translated into the setting up of U-9 to U-13 teams which produced players who went on to play for the national U-13 and U-14 teams.

In addition, he said apart from reviving football competitions at the primary school level, his administration ensured the FCT football league was played yearly at the various Area Councils.

Attah said from just 22 football clubs in the FCT when he took over, the territory can now boast of a total of 55 club sides comprising of three national league clubs, seven amateur clubs, 3 female teams, 35 state league teams and 10 registered football academies.

He said although it was not easy to attract sponsors, his administration was able to get a break through last year when the Daniel Kanu Foundation came on board and provided hundred percent sponsorship for the FCT League.

The chairman said his scorecard will remain in complete without a mention of the success recorded by his administration which ensured that FCT also secured a premier league slot through FC Abuja in 2008.

He added that in less than three weeks of assumption of office, he ensured that the Old Parade Ground football field was unbanned and approved to host even premier league matches.

Attah said the icing on the cake came in 2009 when the FCT won gold in male football competition at the KADA games.

“No doubt one of our greatest achievements was winning the National Sports Festival male football gold medal at Kaduna 2009, thus becoming the first northern team to achieve such feat. The team has once again qualified for the Garden City Games”.

The out-going chairman therefore urged the in-coming administration to build on the solid foundation laid by his administration to take football in FCT to higher heights.
