The FCT Fire Service is set to begin sensitization and enlightenment of pupils and students in schools in the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking  to journalists during a press briefing yesterday in Abuja, the Director FCT Fire Service, Opetunsin Julius, said the school campaign is aimed at making children acquire ideas on what to do during a fire outbreak either in their homes, schools or wherever they find themselves.

Julius said children were very fast in learning so that makes it easy for them to also teach their parents at home on what to do when there is a fire incident.

He also called on principals and school administrators to collaborate with the team to enlighten and identify willing students for the establishment of fire safety clubs in their various schools.

“Pursuant to the same agenda, the FCT fire service recently embarked on aggressive fire safety training to raise consciousness of residents on fire related hazards as our mandate is to save lives and property.

“It in this same regard the FCT Fire Service this year, saved about 43 lives and saved about 1.3 billion naira worth of property,” he said.
