FCT: FRSC mobile court convicts 34 erring drivers

A mobile court set up by the Yangoji Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has convicted 34 drivers for various traffic offences along the Kwali–Abuja–Lokoja highway. 

The court was presided over by Magistrate Maryam Alhaji.

The FRSC Unit Commander for Yangoji, CRC Samuel O. Ekoja, disclosed this to our reporter on Thursday. 

He stated that the erring motorists were convicted for a total of 80 traffic violations, primarily involving route violations, overloading, lack of passenger manifests and failure to use seat belts.

Ekoja noted that the exercise, which took place on Tuesday, also led to the arrest of five drivers who were fined for attempting to bribe FRSC marshals during the operation.

According to the commander, the objective of the mobile court is to reduce highway crashes, reposition operations, and deter traffic offences to create a safer motoring environment. 

He further disclosed that some motorists were prosecuted for driving without a valid license, while motorcycle riders were cited for failing to wear helmets.

The commander added that the exercise was carried out under the directives of the FCT Sector Commander as part of ongoing efforts to minimize road traffic accidents.
