The Federal Capital Territory Health Insurance Scheme (FCT-HIS) has concluded plans to enroll vulnerable groups in its universal health coverage programme.

The Director of FCT-HIS, Dr. Ahmed Danfulani, who spoke to journalists during the commemoration of the Universal Health Coverage Day at the weekend, said 200, 000 enrollees had already been captured in the scheme.

Dr. Danfulani said the essence of the universal health coverage was to ensure that all the people obtained the health services they needed without suffering any financial difficulty when paying.

He explained that, “In the FCT we are already enrolling the poor and this is going to be funded by the Federal Government, and I think that is a positive development.

“For those who cannot pay, effort is being made through the equity funds in all state social insurance schemes and basic healthcare provision fund and the NHIS so that all Nigerians can be captured in the scheme.”

In order to create awareness on the scheme, the director led a walk from the FCT-HIS office in BOA Plaza, Central Business District, Abuja, to Garki International Market.

At the market, the public was entertained to drama, dance and music and a health talk was given by an official of the scheme.
