Minister of State for the FCT, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, who made this known during a recent over-sight visit by the House Committee on FCT to the Satellite Town Development Agency, revealed that the in-house infrastructural design, technical and financial bid has been concluded for the Mamusa district.
On the proposed relocation of the Nyanya Labour Camp she said a large expanse has been provided at Gidan Daya, along Jikwoyi-Karsh road for the relocation of the 7,000 households presently inhabiting the camp.
She said the camp which was supposed to be a temporary abode has remained on ground for 35 years with the attendant appalling condition of the houses.
According to her, the relocation becomes necessary as international organisations like Habitat and the USA has certified the camp as unfit for habitation.
“A land has been provided for relocation of the Nyanya Labour Camp at Gidan Daya, along Jikwoyi-Karshi road. In house engineering design has been completed and adequate provision has been made for mobilisation in the 2013 budget,” the minister told the committee members during her presentation.
She further sought for the support of the committee for the Satellite Town Development Agency which was resuscitated in 2011 for rapid development of the FCT satellite towns saying, “the first 35 years of the FCT was city-centric but the next 35 years should be the period of development of the satellite town”.
Earlier, the Chairman, House Committee on the FCT,  Emmanuel Jimeh said the visit was to assess the performance of the agency in the area of affordable housing development and infrastructural development vis-a-viz the provisions of the 2012 and 2013 budgets.
Jimeh, who emphasized the need for simultaneous development of the city and the satellite towns said the planning and development of the city and satellite towns must be simultaneous for decongestion of the city.
He assured that the committee would pay regular visits to the agency and monitor the procurement process to ensure that the projects are delivered.
