The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has approved the appointment of Usman Abdulaziz Ibrahim as the new Etsu of Wako Chiefdom in Kwali Area Council of FCT.

The appointment was contained in a letter signed by the minister and copied to the Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon Danladi Chiya.

The minister said the appointment was made in appreciation of the Wako chiefdom’s tradition.

She added that the appointment was made after the resolution of Wako kingmakers of December 21, 2020 which was unanimously endorsed by the FCT council of chiefs.

According to her, the appointment of the new chief was part of the exercise of the power conferred on her by Section 1 of the Chiefs (Appointment and Disposition) FCT Act No. 8 of 1997.

“In view of the above, you are please invited to note that this exalted traditional office demands a high sense of responsibility, maturity and commitment which you must exercise always,” she said.

The minister said details of the arrangement for the installation and presentation of staff of office to the new Wako chief will be communicated to him in due course.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Kwali Area council, Danladi Chiya, has congratulated the newly appointed chief of Wako Chiefdom and urged him to ensure he unites all the Abawa indigenes across the council.

Chiya, who gave the advice while presenting the appointment letter to the chief on Saturday, also urged him to ensure peaceful coexistence among people of his chiefdom irrespective of ethnic and religious affiliations.

“I will also want you to see everyone in your chiefdom as your subject irrespective of their ethnic or religious background; you need them and they also need you and you should ensure you do justice to all,” he said.

The chairman further urged the chief to ensure that he identified with those that stood by him despite all odds to ensure that he emerged as the next traditional ruler of Wako chiefdom, advising that such people should be recognised and rewarded with traditional chieftaincy titles.

Responding, the Madaki of Wako chiefdom, while speaking through the Etsu of Wako, Abdulaziz Usman, appreciated the council chairman for his efforts in ensuring that justice prevailed.

It would be recalled that Wako chiefdom stool became vacant after the death of the chief of Wako, Alhaji Ibrahim D. Usman, on June 20, 2020.
