The chairman of Multi-Net Limited, Dr Uzoma Obiyo, has called on the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Bello to give priority to clearing slums.
Speaking with journalists on Thursday in Abuja, Obiyo lamented that Abuja might be heading the wrong direction with numerous slums.
Obiyo who stated that Abuja should benchmark Dubai regretted that “there’re slums everywhere in Abuja”.
He said, “In every district you go in Abuja, you see slums. You don’t see this in an emerging city. India used to be a typical example of Abuja but they have been able to do slum regeneration.
“So how can Nigeria emerge as a strong economy when we can’t do the very simple thing by cleaning up our environment and making sure that there are no slums. Slums aren’t healthy for our people.
“I encourage the minister to begin to look into slum regeneration. We’re ready to support that.”
According to the investor, his company has developed a lot of properties in and out of Nigeria.
“Currently we have mass housing projects that will meet the needs of the middle class and even the below the middle class and even the top class,” he stated.
