Speaking with Sunday Sermon in Abuja penultimate week, Abe whose ministry works Restore lives to Purpose, maintained, “It shouldn’t be the FCT minister doing this. The church should have done this years back. But because we have created Christianity into compartments which we call congregations, churches—it has created the sense of competition among churches such that we have lost the ability to impact on the society. This is not the duty of the FCT minister. It is the duty of the church.”

The young but inspirational preacher said, “I believe we are getting to that era now when churches are beginning to realise that it takes more than mere preaching on Sundays. It takes more than writing a book.”

Quoting the bible, the cleric stressed that, “Jesus Christ who was anointed with the Holy Spirit and power…went about doing good…” in other words, adding that, “if Jesus Christ were in our days, these are the things he would have focused on [tackling flesh sale].”

He said things were not meant to be like this: “What was the original plan of God when he created the earth? His plan did not have calamity, destruction or epidemics in it. So, these things came into being as a result of man leaving the creator. If we live our lives according to the dictates of God who created the heaven and the earth, things will function well.

“When God made man, he said, ‘Let’s make man in our own image and let him have dominion over the fish, over everything.’ In other words, man is supposed to be in charge of things. In fact, we are supposed to regulate things. But what we have now is things are going bad because human beings have left God. When we leave the creator and begin to work in creation, it can’t work. We need the creator to activate the true light of creation.”

According to him, the biggest challenge society faces is many who profess to be working for God but truly working in an opposing manner to the rules of God.

“It is just like a school where you have a code of conduct, yet a lot of students in the school can be in cults and they can cheat during exams. That doesn’t mean they are not students of that school. We have churches but that doesn’t mean everybody is living the true life they were called to. Because I’m a Christian doesn’t mean that it is not possible for me to be doing things wrong. People are getting more religious rather than being kingdom oriented. Things go wrong because we ourselves have left God—not that we have left the church,” he explained.

The way to tackle this, he said, starts from the pulpit and the individual life: “We need a re-orientation on what it exactly means to be a Christian because things go wrong when Christians miss their mark. Because Christians are the basic solutions to everything we have in this world. We are the light of the world. We are the light to darkness.

“Once we get it wrong on what it means to be a Christian, then we are bound to go the way of the world. The world is missing the mark and Christians are missing the mark. The world is in the church but the church needs to save the world. We must come out and realise our kingdom duty on earth. Once we are out of this kingdom duty, we just become a religious set of people.”
