The Agabe of Ugbada-Gwargwada chiefdom in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Hussaini Agabi Mam, has identified a forest that links Gwargwada and Kuje axis as kidnappers’ hideouts and urged the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to open up road that will link the area with Kuje town.
Alhaji Mam, who spoke with our reporter on Tuesday, said the spate of insecurity in the chiefdom has become worrisome, recalling how his two subjects, who were among abducted victims in the area, were killed on February 18 by the kidnappers.
He said kidnappers have taken advantage of the bad terrain of the road to use the axis as their route and hideout, advising that opening the road will enhance access to distress calls.
He said, “On February 28, 2025, some of my subjects were kidnapped, unfortunately, two of them were killed by their abductors. I have written severally to the minister to come to our aid. I even suggested to him the need to link Gwargwada to Kuje because this axis has been the hideout for the kidnappers.”
He said the road, which has been in the FCT master plan, also links to River Benue in Umaisha, Nasarawa State.
He commended the local vigilantes in his chiefdom, whom he said, have been foiling kidnapping attempts in rural communities in the area.
“Sometimes in February, some kidnappers abducted six people near neighboring Monu village but with the combined efforts of the vigilantes from various villages within my chiefdom, they were rescued,’’ the monarch added.
He said the palace had always been supporting the vigilantes and appealed to the FCT administration to also give them the necessary support to boost their morale.
Alhaji Mam also sought for the establishment of an army base around Gwargwada -Gwombe junction, saying the junction has become a blackspot where the kidnappers mostly target their victims.
