FCT police commissioner orders probe into killing in Karmo

The FCT police commissioner, Bala Ciroma, has ordered an investigation into the shooting of a 52 year -old man, Solomon Ezeh, at Karmo, Abuja on Sunday, by a policeman.

A statement by the command spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said the culpable policeman was identified and was currently in detention.

He said the police commissioner, while commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, assured members of the public that the command would be transparent in its investigation and that findings would be made public.

A resident of Karmo, Emmanuel Isaac, said the incident happened around 7.00 pm on Sunday, after some policemen arrested two youths in the area for undisclosed reasons.

He said it was while the policemen were putting the youths in their patrol van that the deceased and some residents accosted them.

He added that a hot argument ensued with the police and one of the policemen shot sporadically into the air and a stray bullet hit Ezeh.

City News gathered that the incident has caused tension, especially among the youths in Karmo, who marched out in protest.

It was learnt that the chairman of AMAC, Abdullahi Adamu Candido and some senior AMAC officials visited Karmo, to calm the youths but their efforts were futile, as the young men pelted them with stones.

Policemen however tear gassed and dispersed the protesters.
