The FCT police commissioner, Bala Ciroma, has warned the youths in the territory against acts of violence before, during and after the general elections.

Ciroma handed the warning at the sensitisation of communities on Nonviolent Participation in 2019 Election organised by Gbedognu Development Association in Pyakasa, Abuja, on Saturday.

Represented by the Lugbe Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Raymond Ayim, the commissioner urged parents to advise their wards to stay away from violence.

He said the security agencies were aware of the fact that there would be no development without peace in any given society, saying all hands must be on deck to ensure all electioneering campaigns were devoid of violence in the territory.

Ciroma also cautioned party supporters against unguarded utterances and hate speeches, which he said sometimes lead to violent reaction from the opponent.

“I want everybody here to listen to me. In about two weeks’ time, we will be having general elections and without environment of peace, we cannot have this election as we need peace before, during and after election,” he said.

He advised politicians to respect each other’s opinion, saying whoever emerged as winner at the end of the election, the loser should exhibit sportsmanship and embrace the winner.

“And that person who emerges as winner is going to rule over all of us not APC or PDP because by the time the election is over, it is now one Nigeria and all of us will contribute our own quota,” he added.
