FCT police foil riot over lynching of suspected thief

The Federal Capital Police Command (FCT)  foiled a clash between opposing groups over the lynching to death of a suspected thief in the Apo area of Abuja.

Aso Chronicle gathered that opposing groups were almost rioting over the killing of a suspected thief by a mob in the Berger Area of Apo the morning on Monday.

It was learnt that after the mob allegedly killed the suspected thief, another group embarked on a protest claiming that the victim was not a thief.

However, the FCT commissioner of Police (CP) Wilson Inalegwu has called on residents of Apo and its environs to be law abiding and maintain calm as the command has put in place adequate measures to forestall any act that  will breach the peace and lead to  breakdown of law and order in the territory.

A statement yesterday by the FCT Police command spokesman ASP Anjuguri Manzah said the CP: “sounded the warning at the wake of an early morning disagreement between two opposing groups that could have resulted in a clash but was averted with the timely intervention of anti-riot police personnel who were promptly deployed to the scene to save the situation from escalating.”

Manzah added that Inalegwu assured residents of the area and other parts of FCT that adequate measures have been deployed to contain the situation, investigate and unravel the remote and underlining issues behind the upheaval.
