A lone female chairmanship aspirant of the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kuje area council of the FCT, Hajiya Aisha Yakubu has promised to prioritize health and education sectors if she is given the mandate to pilot affairs of the council.

Yakubu, who is a former speaker of Kuje area council and chairperson of the FCT area councils speakers forum, made the promise when she addressed newsmen at the state APC secretariat, Abuja, on Friday, after she picked nomination/expression of interest forms to contest for the chairmanship of Kuje area council on the platform of APC.

She said her desire to prioritize health and sectors was necessary due to challenges especially patients in rural communities were facing over lack of access to good healthcare service delivery.

She stated that the absence of quality healthcare service delivery in rural communities has become a nightmare to the rural dwellers, hence, the need for her to make healthcare service accessible for the villagers across the ten wards of the council if elected as chairman of the council.

“It is quite worrisome that virtually 80 percent of health centers are in dilapidated state during my tour across the ten wards of Kuje area council where I met with the APC ward executives and the residents, which is why if given the mandate, I will prioritize the health and education sectors God willing,” she said.

She also said that the state education sector especially primary schools in rural communities in the area was worrisome, saying several schools were in dilapidated state making learning easy for the pupils.

She added that her administration will improve on agricultural sector through provision of farm inputs to rural farmers in order to boost food production across the council, saying Kuje area council has been the “food basket” of the FCT.

She, however, said women need to come on board to vie for elective positions in order to contribute to the development of the society, saying women are always the highest voters at any election.

“Women shouldn’t be seen as the highest in voting strength alone but they should be seen in decision table where we can make impacts on the society. And that is why we are lobbying to see that we are elected to not only serve people of Kuje area council alone but the country at large,” she said.

The chairmanship aspirant, who acknowledged the party’s decision to elect its candidate through consensus, said politics is not a “do or die” affair, saying she is ever ready to support any candidate that picks party’s ticket at the end in order to ensure that APC emerge victorious at the poll.
