Ahead of the February 21, 2026, area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated an 18-member reconciliation committee to strengthen party unity and boost its chances.
Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja, FCT APC Chairman, Alhaji Abdulmalik Usman, stressed the need for collective effort.
“We are committed to securing victory in the FCT area council elections. Under the leadership of Minister of Special Duties, Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo, we have set up this committee to ensure we fulfill our promise,” he said.
APC North-Central Zonal Secretary, Hon. Yakubu Adamu, urged members to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointment of an FCT indigene, Jisalo, as minister, saying, “This should be reciprocated by strengthening our party and securing the FCT for Tinubu in 2027.”
Currently, APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) each control three area councils. APC governs Abaji, Gwagwalada, and Kwali, while PDP holds Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, and Kuje.
Hon. Jisalo reassured members of his dedication to the party’s success. “We will not disappoint you. Our goal is for young people to take over leadership at all levels,” he said.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, Hon. Abiodun Esiet, expressed confidence in the committee’s role, stating, “In politics, no one is insignificant. Every vote matters.”
