The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially launched a comprehensive voter education and inclusivity campaign ahead of the February 21, 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections.
Speaking at the opening of the joint implementation meeting in Abuja, the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris, represented by the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, said the meeting signals “the official commencement of the Commission’s voter education, sensitisation, and inclusivity activities” for the upcoming polls.
He explained that the session was convened to review, align and refine strategies for implementing INEC’s approved voter education and inclusivity programmes.
According to him, the initiative is designed to ensure a “free, credible, inclusive, and informative” electoral process for all FCT residents.
Idris urged participants, including heads of departments, electoral officers, assistant electoral officers, and representatives of civil society organisations, to apply their expertise in voter demographics, communication, and inclusivity in crafting messages that address the diverse needs of voters across the territory.
He emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts to effectively reach voters across 2,822 polling units, 62 registration areas, and six area councils.
In her goodwill message, the FCT State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Ms. Acharu Opaluwa, represented by Theresa Ijeoma Eze, commended INEC for sustaining its collaboration with the agency and reaffirmed NOA’s commitment to strengthening grassroots voter education ahead of the elections.
