Hon. Loveth Izekor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for the City Centre Ward in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has rejected the outcome of Saturday’s election, alleging widespread irregularities.
Addressing a press briefing on Monday, Izekor claimed the exercise was marred by manipulation during the collation process, despite what she described as her party’s convincing performance at the polling units.
“Our records show that we won convincingly at the majority of the polling units. However, the figures were manipulated during the collation process to favor the APC candidate. We view this as a direct assault on democracy,” she said.
Alleging that the election was rigged, Izekor stressed the need for electoral reforms, including the real-time transmission of results. “The experience of this past weekend shows that Nigeria still has a long way to go. We need urgent electoral reforms; this is the only way to protect the integrity of the ballot,” she added.
Izekor expressed appreciation to her supporters who defied the general voter apathy to stand by her candidacy.
“I want to thank my supporters who ignored the apathy to stand by me. I appreciate your loyalty and your courage. Your effort was not in vain,” she said.
She further announced that her legal team is preparing to challenge the result at the election tribunal. “We are not accepting this result. Our legal team is already preparing to file a petition, and we will pursue this matter to its logical conclusion. We remain determined to reclaim the mandate that was freely given to us by the people of City Centre,” she stated.
