FCT polls: Youth assembly urges INEC on free, fair elections

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

The speaker of the FCT chapter of the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN), Comrade Umar Rabiu Munya, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure it conducts free, fair and credible elections during the February 21, 2026, chairmanship/councilorship polls in the territory.

Munya, who was speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Saturday, said INEC, as an independent organisation, should ensure a free level playing ground for all the contestants and also a process that will be acceptable by not only the people of the FCT but Nigerians as a whole.

He said the FCT, being the heartbeat and centre of the nation, Nigerians and international observers will be looking forward to see that INEC conducts acceptable polls.

He urged all FCT residents, especially the youths, to register and collect their voter’s cards to enable them to vote for the candidates of their choice on election day.
