Teachers of the Local Education Authority (LEA) primary schools in the Federal Capital Territory yesterday suspended their strike.
They had, on September 11, downed tools over non-payment of their 40 percent peculiar allowance and 25 months minimum wage arrears for 2019 by the six area council chairmen.
The strike was suspended after a meeting of the executive committee of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in FCT.
Addressing newsmen, NUT Chairman, FCT, Stephen Knabayi, said, “After intensive SWEC meeting of the union, we looked at the position of and appeal of the government and decided to suspend the ongoing teachers strike for six weeks to enable them address our demands.”

Earlier yesterday, the chairman of the FCT chapter of the Patents-Teachers Association, Usman Abubakar, had appealed to the Minister, Nyesom Wike, to wade into the strike.
