The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has called on the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to commence implementation of the new minimum wage and payment of arrears of primary school teachers in the territory.
Acting secretary of the FCT NUT, Comrade Margaret I. Jethro, who made the call while speaking with newsmen at the Teachers House in Gwagwalada, on Monday, said the union was expecting that the teachers’ minimum wage and their arrears would be paid by end of January, 2021 as agreed.

She said the union had written a letter of reminder to the Minister of State for FCT, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu and the acting Secretary for Education on the need to ensure that the agreement reached with the six area council chairmen on the implementation of the minimum wage and payment of arrears is adhered to.
According to her, the suspension of strike action embarked upon by primary school teachers in October and November 2020, was as a result of the FCT minister’s intervention.
“And it was on that premise that the strike action embarked upon was only suspended not called off. And failure to abide by the agreement signed, the union, therefore, will be left with no other option than to resume the suspended strike from the 1st of February, 2021,” she said.
