The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Federal Capital Territory chapter, has decried what it says are exorbitant taxes charged private school owners in Abuja.
The president of the association, Mrs. Samira Jibir, in a statement said most of the taxes were uncalled for because the taxes of the federal government, the FCT and area councils were the same most of the time but came with different names.
She explained that most of the taxes were confusing and that the multiple taxes from the various government bodies have created platform for fraudulent individuals to go to the schools and demand for payment.
She said the numerous taxes were not good for the running of private schools, adding that the government should consider the fact that the private schools were complimenting its effort in the education sector.
Mrs Jibir also said value for the payment of the taxes was not felt in the provision of infrastructure such as good roads, electricity, boreholes for the benefit of the schools and the communities.
