A total of 348 motor vehicles were involved in road accidents in the outgoing year in the FCT.
The accidents, among them 39 fatal cases, involved 508 people, 118 of who suffered serious injuries and 335 minor or no injuries at all.
The figures were provided by the Secretary, FCT Transportation Secretariat, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, during the 2022 end-of-year briefing in Abuja, on Thursday.
He said the territory witnessed a high rate of traffic accidents during the rainy season as a result of the slippery nature of the road and the overspeeding of motorists.

Candido explained that as part of measures to inculcate good behaviour and improve drivers’ and riders’ knowledge, the secretariat through the Department of Road Traffic Service (DRTS), has established a Driver’s Training Centre in the Lugbe area of the territory.
“A total of 4401 traffic regulation violators and 850 dispatch operation riders have attended mandatory training at our Lugbe centre.
“A total of 37,572 motor vehicles have undergone inspection and emission testing at the DRTS computerised inspection centres,’’ he also stated.
