FCT Senate: Why we insist on indirect primary – APC chieftain

A chieftain of the APC in the FCT, Alhaji Ishaku Tanko Yamawo, has said the FCT APC stakeholders insistence on holding indirect primaries was to avoid internal crises in the party.

Alhaji Yamawo, who spoke in an interview with our reporter in Abuja yesterday, said holding indirect primaries for both Senate and House of Representatives would curtail crises and prevent thugs from disrupting the exercise.

He said the delay by the party’s stakeholders and aspirants to arrive at a final decision was as a result of objection by one of the aspirants who earlier called for direct primaries.

According to him, the stakeholders and all the FCT National Assembly aspirants, as well as the FCT executives, had unanimously resolved to hold indirect primaries, which  was expected to hold today (Tuesday).

“If we should allow direct primaries, there is the possibility that some aspirants’ supporters may come out with thugs to disrupt the process. And as I speak to you, a committee has already been set up that will meet with the national body of the APC on the matter,” he said.
