The deceased who was a deputy director in the sports council died midway into a family meeting that was called to deliberate on the burial ceremony of an aunt and was buried penultimate Friday in Kwali Area Council.

The Public Relations Officer of the FCT Sports Council, Mr. Larry Afu said the staff of the council are yet to come to terms with the reality of the death of one of their longest serving officers.

He said on day that Kwali died, he looked hale and hearty as there was nothing to suggest that he was going to die the same day.

Afu said on the day of the unfortunate incident, Kwali was in the office and he personally interacted with him before he later travelled out of town only to learn of the director’s death on his return.

He maintained that death has denied the council the services of a knowledgeable sports administrator saying he was one of the guiding lights of the council.

“We are still mourning the sudden demise of our senior colleague. Most of us are yet to come to terms with what happened. Kwali was a perfect gentle man. He could not hurt a fly. Sometimes, he was considered weak simply because he did not want to offend anybody.

“Had it been I did not attend his burial, I wouldn’t have believed that Kwali is no more”.

Late Ayuba Kwali, joined the FCT sports council in 1981 and rose to the position of deputy director. He led the FCT to the 2009 National Sports Festival in Kaduna when he was made acting director of sports following Sani Lulu’s election as president of the Nigeria Football Federation.
