The FCT Sports Department has said athletes who have been selected to fly the flag of the territory at the 6th edition of the National Youth Games in Ilorin are motivated to win medals.
The games featuring the 36 states and the FCT will kick-off on Sunday, October 10 and end on October 19 at the Kwara township stadium, Ilorin.
The Head, Media and Communications Unit of the FCT Sports Department, Vivian Onubogu quoted the acting Director of Sports, Luka Istifanus as saying FCT will feature in 18 events at the games.
He said FCT will field eligible athletes in badminton, squash, karate, judo, boxing, taekwondo, wrestling, gymnastics, swimming, handball, beach volleyball, athletics, among others
Istifanus further assured that athletes who will be representing the territory are mostly students who were discovered at various grassroots competitions in the FCT.
He reiterated that the sports department did everything to ensure that those representing the territory are U-15 athletes.
“Our athletes are fully motivated to do the territory proud. They had spent several weeks in closed camping and are battle ready.
“These are home grown athletes. We discovered most of them during Inter-house sports competitions. They are athletes we hope to groom for future national and international competitions,” said Istifanus.
Delta State is the defending champion of the National Youth Games.
