FCT task force and unemployment

Abuja is one of the cities that accommodate a larger number of the unemployed youths in the country. I have been in Abuja since 2006 and I must confess that the unemployed youths in Abuja are hardworking and ready to do legitimate jobs to earn a living but the FCT Administration and its policies are always set against their efforts thereby thwarting them from succeeding.

I would not talk about the FCT’s past administrations where houses were demolished, people were rendered homeless, commercial motorcyclists were banned in many places within the FCT, people were killed and many more.

Even though some people applauded the above stated policies but the truth remains, it was an act of wickedness and oppression of the poor.

Now, the ongoing administration in charge of the FCT has constituted a task force in the name of keeping Abuja clean. The members of the task force go around Abuja, arrest people with provision shops, lock up their shops, arrest people hawking in different places within the FCT, collect their goods and many more.

Those doing the above mentioned businesses and more are the unemployed youth that the government and FCT administration have failed to provide jobs for. If you don’t want them to do what is making food available for them, what else do you expect them to do if not to seek for every possible means of surviving? In some cases, the administration in question claimed to have provided shops and other places for such people but failed to let us know that the fees for the shops are exorbitant and these unemployed youths cannot afford any of them.

The government is not providing jobs for the unemployed youth, it is not proving an enabling environment for the youth to excel in their areas of interest, it has been making policies aimed at frustrating the youth, the same government said the youth are lazy, this government is wicked, this government will read this and label it hate speech.
