A Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA)’s task force team yesterday came under attack while seizing motorcycles on airport road in Abuja.
City & Crime reports that not less than 100 commercial motorcycles, popularly called Okada, were seized during the operation.
Our correspondent reports that as the raiding was going on in the Lugbe area, some of the Okada riders started shooting at the task force team and also attacked them with other types of weapons.
Items recovered include one locally made gun, pistol, cutlasses and daggers.
The Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to the Minister of the FCT, Ikharo Attah, while speaking to journalists at the venue, said, “We came for removal of Okada on airport road corridor, the Minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammad Bello, has given a matching order that Okada should be removed because they are not allowed to ply the main road, but most times we find them driving against traffic on the expressway against traffic rules.’’
Speaking on the attack, Attah said, “For us, attack is a regular thing, we have been attacked severally and we are used to it.’’
