The teachers had embarked on strike, citing delay in their promotion in the last two years, non implementation of their 27.5 per cent teaching allowance and failure to pay their 100 percent rent allowance.
They called off the strike on Monday following government’s resolve to address the issues.
A source told Daily Trust that they called off the strike because government has promised to tackle the problems starting with the promotion of about 689 teachers in FCT, last week Monday. He said that they also agreed to pay the 27.5 percent teaching allowance and address other issues tabled before them.
However, the chairman of FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Moroof Akinwande, had last week Monday handed promotion letters to principals of secondary schools to deliver to teachers in their schools.
He explained that deserving teachers were picked from promotional examination held last February by FCT administration’s education secretariat.
All efforts to get the NUT president to speak on the resolve between them and the FCT administration proved abortive.
