The Federal Capital Territory Administration has resolved to promote the export of shea butter through the zero oil plan.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, stated this at the 3rd Technical Meeting of the National Committee on Export Promotion held in Abuja on Thursday.

Represented by the FCT Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adesola, she said coming under the One-State-One-Product (OSOP) initiative, the plan was meant to link the rural communities with the national export value-chain and facilitate Nigeria’s socio-economic growth through job creation and family empowerment.

She explained that shea butter had been identified as a high economic value export product that had the potential to generate an average of $200 million annually.

She said Nigeria’s current export value was $5 million but the zero oil plan potential and target is $100 million, noting that this is what the FCT desires to leverage on to create jobs and drive inclusion.

Ramatu called for collaboration with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and other export facilitating agencies and organisations to provide support for stakeholders in the shea value chain to increase production and productivity, ease of processing with minimal labour, and having wholesome products for the export market.

Earlier, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, said the Federal Executive Council had rectified the plan, stressing that the African continental free trade agreement would provide a lot of potentials for Nigeria to grow its export from $3.4 trillion market value.
