Director of the Federal Department of Livestock and Pest Control Services, Dr. Abubakar Abdulganiyu, who stated this at the flag-off of the scheme at Dapara village in Kuje Area Council of the FCT, said the dairy chain has embarked on breed improvement through fully subsidized artificial insemination.
He also disclosed that the ministry is registering clusters of dairy farmers around established milk processing firms in states with comparative advantage, saying 1,168 dairy farmers have been registered in the exercise.
Dr. Abdulganiyu said the federal government is already partnering with Friesland Campina Wamco Plc to implement a milk production and productivity strategy to source their milk requirement locally from the reserves for processing and value addition.
He, however said the essence of the GES is to provide support for farmers through provision of critical livestock inputs such as discounted supplementary feed and salt lick to improve milk production.
