FCT-UBEB organises reality show debate for students

In an effort to address the high number of out-of-school children and low school enrolment, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) has organized a two-week reality show debate for secondary school students in the territory.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the “2025 Head-to-Head School Debate” at the board’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, FCT UBEB Chairman, Dr. Hassan Suleiman, said the debate was organized to encourage girl-child education in the FCT.

He added that the reality show aims to have both primary school pupils and junior secondary students identify their peers who are not in school and report them to their head teachers or school principals.

He said these students will then visit rural communities to enlighten girls on the importance of free and compulsory education.

Dr. Jummai Ahmadu, whom he called the “mother of the head-to-head reality show,” said a thorough process was followed to select the best students from across the six area councils to participate in the debate.
