The FCT Administration has committed over 1.3 billion to the scholarship scheme in the FCT from 2010 till date which has benefitted 77,000 pupils and students.
The FCT Secretary for Education, Senator Isa Maina, said this yesterday in Abuja at the flag-off of disbursement of FCT education scholarship award for the 2015/2016 session.
Maina said the FCT Administration in the same vain has approved the sum of N67,024,700.00 which will be disbursed to about 2,337 indigenous beneficiaries within the six Area Councils of the FCT for the 2016/2017 scholarship award session, adding that this includes 466pupils in the basic and post basic schools, 372 learners in the skills acquisition and mass literacy centres, 165 in the special needs centres and 1,334in both foreign and Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The beneficiaries in the tertiary institutions will have their bursary disbursed into their individual accounts while those in the other levels were to receive textbooks in some core subjects, uniforms, skills acquisition tools, and crouches and hearing aids for the children with special needs.
In his response, the Director, FCT Scholarship Board, Malam Rany Isa, said the board provides education assistance across all levels.
