The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), has demolished night clubs, including Kilowatts Nightclub,  on 24 Crescent, Gwarimpa.

The Coordinator of AMMC, Alhaji Umar Shuaibu, accompanied by the Director, Development Control, Mal. Mukhtar Usman Galadima, led the team which also demolished illegal structures at the Federal Environmental Protection Agency Estate (FEPA) located on No. 1, Nairobi Street, Wuse II.

Our reporter learnt that the owner of Kilowatts claimed to have the building approval from the Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) in Gwarimpa, but that the document was with his lawyer who is out of the country.

He pleaded with the FCTA officials not to remove the structure, adding that he paid over N10m to the FHA in order to secure the place.

The AMMC Coordinator, said the nightclub was built on a flood plain and so it would not be allowed to stand.

In a related development, Aso Chronicle gathered that residents of FEPA had lodged complaints at the FCTA that, over the weekend, a developer seized the children’s recreational park located in the estate.

They said the developer came with security men and started building a fence to secure the park, claiming ownership.

A former chairperson of the residents association of the estate, Andrew Ojogbo, said as far back as 2012, different people had been fighting to claim the land, but that the FCTA gave a judgment that the land should be left as a children’s recreational centre.

Ojogbo said, “To our surprise, we are being intimidated by the developer as nobody can talk to him. This park is very important to us because almost all the children within this estate come here to play during holidays, and we as parents also make use of the park as reception ground whenever we have any occasion, that was why we had to alert the authorities.”

The coordinator of AMMC said the land was originally a recreational park in the master plan and so he ordered that the fence, which was still under construction, be pulled down.

Shuaibu added that the said developer would be prosecuted and an assessment of all what he destroyed in the park must be recovered and put back in place.
