The FCT Ministerial Task Force on City Sanitation, Wednesday, demolished some shops adjacent to Kubwa market where kerosene explosion killed at least nine people last week.

The enforcement team, led by its chairman, Attah Ikaro, accompanied by security men, barricaded all roads leading to the site on arrival around 12pm. 

Shops attached to some houses around the market were pulled down by the team.

City News learnt that in the process, three persons, including a former councilor representing the area Mr. Danladi John, Youth leader of Maitama community, where the market is located and one of his members, were arrested during the operation. City News could not ascertain why they were arrested but sources said it might not be unconnected with their utterances during the operation.

The exercise was coming after a quit notice was reportedly issued to the shops owners on Monday, which immediately followed by marking of the building. 

There was tension in the area throughout the exercise and all efforts to get the arrested people released by some community leaders did not yield result.

Shop owners, some of them, victims of the explosion, lamented over the demolitions, saying it will further worsen their condition.
