FCTA directs 6pm closure of Dutsen Alhaji market

Federal Capital Territory (FCTA)

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has directed that henceforth the Dutsen-Alhaji Market in Bwari Area Council should be closed for operations at 6pm daily to, among other inconveniences, reduce the chaotic traffic situation near the market on the Dutsen Alhaji-Bwari road.

The Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement, Mr Ikharo Attah, disclosed this during a meeting at the weekend with heads of security agencies and paramilitary organisations, especially those in charge of Dutsen-Alhaji axis, in his office in Abuja.

He lamented the continued flouting of traffic regulations in the area, especially during the peak periods, which he identified as the major cause of gridlock in the area.

Attah said, “When the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, and the traffic management team met on the traffic situation in the Dutsen Alhaji axis, the minister asked us to clear the traffic in Nyanya and Dutsen Alhaji.

“We will also look at the Dutse market, where people don’t have closing time, when they finish, people just come to the main road and clog the road.

“We will also look at the Sokale roundabout in Dutsen Alhaji, and some of the challenges there and there will be engineering solutions.”

He, therefore, directed that no one should be allowed to go into the Dutse market from 6pm.

The Assistant Director of Enforcement, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Kaka Bello, lamented the return of scavengers in the market and called for their removal.
