The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commended the National Health Fellows Programme for its significant contributions to strengthening healthcare delivery across the territory.
The administration noted that the initiative has bolstered manpower support, data management, and service delivery at the grassroots level.
Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, gave the commendation on Monday in Abuja during the interview process for the second cohort of the National Health Fellows.
Dr. Fasawe stated that the programme has played a critical role in improving health planning through effective data collection and utilization.
She highlighted its success in addressing key gaps within the primary healthcare system.
Furthermore, she explained that the programme has facilitated “task shifting,” with fellows now performing essential duties that would traditionally require the attention of doctors, matrons, or senior supervisors.
According to Dolapo, the fellows undergo intensive training and are deliberately recruited from within the communities they serve.
This localized strategy, she noted, has significantly improved community acceptance and the overall impact of the intervention.
