The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA), through its Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat (ARDS), has sought for the help of natives of Bwari to end incessant encroachment on forest reserves.
The FCTA Director of Forestry, Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Caroline Opara, called for the support when she met with the natives to resolve the issue of encroachment on a forest land and illegal cutting down of trees.
Mrs. Opara who was at the Etsu Bwari’s Palace recently, appealed to the natives to see the forest as an initiative that would improve their well-being.
She said, “Recall that the forest was set up by ARDS in 2004, but in 2015, the signpost was removed without the consent of government, with most of the teak trees removed, with a new signpost mounted.”
The director said the teak plantation in Kogo area of Bwari was one of FCTA’s plans to curb erosion and flooding, as well as pave way for tourist activities that could boost development in the own.
Mrs. Opara, therefore, urged the Esu Bwari to prevail on his followers to stop the encroachment and take appropriate measures in channeling their grievances to government.
The Etsu Bwari, HRH Ibrahim Yaro, pledged commitment to work with government at all times to bring development to the area.
He explained that there was no plan to sabotage government’s initiatives to better the living condition of his people, but that there should always be due process in carrying out programmes and policies that had direct bearing on the people.
Chief Yaro promised to hold a meeting with youths and other palace members on the best way to resolve the matter within a short time before inviting officials of ARDS for final resolution.
