The FCT Administration has set up a seven-member high-powered committee of technocrats to look into the crisis currently bedeviling the Joint Federal Staff Cooperative Thrift and Loans Society (JFSCTS).
The FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Babatope Ajakaiye, inaugurated the  committee after meeting the warring factions  on Friday.
He charged the members of the committee to come up with appropriate recommendations that would bring the crisis to an amicable end.
He said the terms of reference of the committee included,  investigating and making recommendations on the activities and financial transactions of the first executive of the cooperative society to date.
Dr. Ajakaiye enjoined the committee to also investigate the process of change that led to the emergence of the second executive and determine whether it was properly done and make recommendations.
“This committee is to investigate thoroughly the state of the affairs in the office of the Chief Registrar of Cooperatives in the FCT and make appropriate recommendations,” he added.
The permanent secretary told the committee to also look into any other area in the activities of the cooperative where it deemed fit.
Dr. Ajakaiye reminded the warring factions that a cooperative society was an autonomous association of people united voluntarily to meet their common economic, welfare and cultural needs and aspirations, through a jointly owned and democratically controlled business.
The committee has one month to complete its assignment  and has the FCT Solicitor-General, Barrister Yusuf Hulegi Wodi, as chairman and Mr. Udo Samuel Atang, Director in the office of the Permanent Secretary as secretary.
Other members include the FCT Director of Establishment and Training; FCT Director of Audit; FCT Director of Security; Director Human Resources Management, Federal Ministry of Information and a representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Responding, the chairman of the committee and FCT Solicitor-General, Barrister Yusuf Hulegi Wodi, who spoke on behalf of the members  said they would discharge their responsibility in order to bring the crisis to an end.
The cooperative society has branches in almost all the federal ministries, National Population Commission (NPC), OAGF and many other agencies of the federal government.
