While the administration of Senator Bala Mohammed deserves commendation for rehabilitating some roads within the Wuse District and other parts of the capital city, one would have thought that the same administration would consider it wise to pay attention to other inner city roads that are in a deplorable condition and are currently posing a nightmare to motorists.
The state of the Adesoji Ademulegun Road in the heart of the business district is a shame and an eyesore to the prestigious city of Abuja. It also shows that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is too slow in responding to infrastructural challenges facing one of the fastest growing cities in Africa.
This particular road that runs through the strategic portion of the Central Business District begins from the Central Mosque. However, while the portion of the road from the Central Mosque up to the Grand Square is motorable, the other end of the same road after the Grand Square is unmotorable by any standards and has been left unattended for years.
In spite of repeated appeals from owners of businesses within the precinct of the bad portion of this particular road which is less than a kilometre, the FCTA is yet to act.
It can be said for a fact that this neglected portion of the Adesoji Ademulegun Road is the worst example of the otherwise beautiful and motorable road network one finds in other parts of the business district in Abuja.
The deplorable condition of the road is affecting the fortunes of conglomerates such as Leventis, Abuja Capital Motors, Indomie, Nasco, Sterling Bank, Panabiz and Noel Carpets, all of whom pay the same special charges, tenement and ground rents as other businesses located in the Central Business District.
I am therefore, using this medium to appeal as well as send a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to the minister of the FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed to direct the appropriate department of the FCTA to commence the process of constructing the bad portion of the Adesoji Ademulegun Road, so that operators of businesses in the area and other road users can enjoy the much touted dividend of democracy.
The road is being used by motorists now because of the self-help efforts carried out by concerned good Samaritans, who have filled the numerous potholes on the road either with gravel or other materials to make it motorable.
We have suffered enough in silence, please honourable minister hearken to our cries and come to our aid, and rescue our businesses before they collapse for lack of patronage.
