The FCT administration has distributed HIV rapid test kits to health facilities across the six area councils of the FCT. 

The  FCT Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretariat, Barrister Amanda Pam, made this disclosure yesterday in Abuja at a press briefing.

She  said apart from up-scaling the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS in rural areas with N2,595,220,646, the secretariat has also funded TB, family planning and vaccine programmes with N15,350,845.80, N20,787,436.80 and N3,793,645,800, respectively.

The “FCT Logistics Management Coordinating Unit (LMCU) successfully supported the Last Mile Distribution ( LMD) of commodities worth N2,595,220,646, N15,350,842.80, N20,787,436.80, and N3,793,645,800 for HIV, TB, family planning and vaccine programmes respectively,” she said.

According to her, among the new projects the secretariat intends to embark on to improve health and human services in the territory are the rehabilitation and expansion of Kuje District Hospital to a standard secondary health care facility.

Meanwhile, the secretary has   decried the delay on some of the health and other allied matters bills of the secretariat still pending at  the National Assembly. She, however assured that despite the obvious challenges, the secretariat would move the health sector of the FCT to the next phase in 2018.

 The deputy director, Pharmacy Unit, Amos Aremu, explained that the sealing of some pharmaceutical firms within the nation’s capital was to curtail the activities of people who want to make profit at the expense of public health.
