The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced its plan to clear all illegal settlements, particularly shanties that are known to harbor criminals and impede development projects in Abuja.
Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, stated that the ongoing campaign against criminal hideouts in the city will continue.
“The FCTA finds the security threats from parts of Durumi District, particularly Area 1 in Garki District, worrisome,” Olayinka said in a statement.
He added that, “High-level criminal activities such as robbery, carjacking, drug peddling, and other heinous crimes with their attendant security implications for law-abiding FCT residents cannot be allowed to continue.”

Olayinka explained that to ensure a safer FCT, the minister, Nyesom Wike, established a Stakeholders Committee. This committee includes heads of security agencies, FCTA officials, Civil Society Organizations, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), among others.
