The Minister of State for the FCT, Hajiya Mariya Mahmud, has said that the FCT Administration (FCTA), under the leadership of Nyesom Wike, is fully committed to promoting unity and preserving the cultures of the various communities in the territory.
Hajiya Mariya disclosed this on Friday at the 8th Karu Chiefdom Annual Cultural Festival organized by the Karu Gbagyi Development Association (KABGADA) in Karu within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
She emphasised that culture and identity were the primary means by which ethnic groups were identified.
She added that the current administration, under the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had ensured that the cultural values of ethnic groups were accorded their desired importance.
The minister commended the Sa’Karuyi, HRH Joseph Danfulani Narai (JP), and the members of the chiefdom for organising the festival.
She noted that the display of diverse traditions by various ethnic groups was a clear demonstration of unity, peace and progress.
Also speaking at the event, the Mandate Secretary for the Area Council Services Secretariat (ACSS), Lawrence Bitrus Garki, who was the guest speaker, described the cultures of the nine indigenous ethnic groups in the FCT as some of the most captivating in the world.
He said, “The Gbagyi culture and those of other original inhabitants in the FCT have the potential to influence the world around us.
“From our food and attire to our modes of communication and written language, our heritage is significant.”
On his part, the Sa’Karuyi noted that the annual festival was organised to showcase the rich heritage of the Gbagyi.
