The Abuja Geographical Information Systems (AGIS) has assured that all land titles issued by the FCT area councils will be regularised to statutory titles.

AGIS Director, Dr Isah Jalo, who made this known yesterday, said the FCT Minister, Muhammed Isa Bello, had directed AGIS to do everything possible to ensure that the titles were regularised because there were no customary titles in the territory.

Dr Jalo was speaking at a stakeholders’ conference organised by the investigating and monitoring division of the FCT Legal Service Secretariat.

He further said absence of a database had been the major obstacle hindering the regularisation of land titles in the territory, adding that effort was on to address the challenge.

Earlier, the Deputy Director, Investigating and Monitoring Unit of the Legal Service Secretariat, Joseph Erike, said the challenges facing land administration in the territory were notorious, ranging from racketeering, double allocation to proliferation and backdating of layouts or title documents.

He further said the unit was charged to manage all investigation activities from law enforcement agencies.

Representative of the FCT Police Command, SP Barau Iliyasu, noted that AGIS had not been diligent in its response to cases thereby hampering prosecution.
